South Australian Fertility Treatment Rebate

Planning fertility treatment involves emotional, medical, and financial decisions, but a new rebate may make the financial decision slightly easier: the SA Govt introduced the SA Fertility Treatment Rebate Scheme on 1 July 2026, which will help eligible South Australians with certain fertility-related expenses.  There are two sets of rebates: rebates for fertility tests and rebates for fertility treatment. Here we explain who is eligible, what fertility pre-treatment testing or IVF-related expenses qualify, and how to claim the fertility treatment rebate.

 

What is the South Australia's Fertility Treatment rebate Scheme?

The South Australian Government fertility treatment rebate is intended to assist eligible South Australians with certain fertility-related expenses.

Under the scheme, eligible applicants can claim:

  • a $250 rebate for eligible pre-fertility treatment testing and;
  • a $2,000 rebate for eligible fertility treatment cycles (for up to two cycles, so a maximum of $4,000)


Who is eligible for the SA Govt fertility rebates?

To be eligible for a rebate, patients must:

  • be a South Australian Resident;
  • be the person seeking to become pregnant with the use of fertility treatment, noting, eligible fertility tests can be for a male or a female; however, only the individual seeking to become pregnant is permitted to submit an application for the rebate;
  • have incurred an out-of-pocket expense for an eligible pre-fertility test/s  and/or an eligible fertility treatment cycle;
  • be receiving testing/treatment for a fertility issue;
  • have accessed the testing/treatment from 1 July 2026.

Individuals must also meet one of the following financial eligibility criteria:

  • Receive Family Tax Benefit; or
  • Have a Health Care Card (including Low Income Health Care Card and Pensioner Concession Card); or
  • Have a household income of $180,000 or less.

 

What tests are eligible for the $250 SA Govt IVF Pre-fertility Treatment Testing Rebate?

This $250 rebate covers your out-of-pocket costs (i.e. costs remaining after Medicare and/or private health insurance have paid their share) for these four eligible tests:

 

What is covered by the $2,000 SA Govt Fertility Treatment Rebate?

This rebate covers your out-of-pocket costs (i.e. costs remaining after Medicare and/or private health insurance) for:

Treatment must be delivered by an RTAC-certified ART provider operating in South Australia (which Flinders Fertility is!).  Applicants can claim up to two separate rebates of up to $2,000 each (i.e. up to $4,000 total across two completed cycles), for treatment received between 1 July 2026 and 30 June 2030. Applications should be lodged after each cycle is completed — partial or cancelled cycles are not eligible.

 

How do I apply for the rebates?

To apply for either rebate visit the SA Health website and download and/or print the relevant Declaration Form (the Pre-Fertility Treatment Testing Rebate Declaration Form, or the Fertility Treatment Rebate Declaration Form).  You can bring these to the clinic or email them for us to sign to declare that you have had eligible treatment.

For the Fertility Treatment Rebate, applications should be lodged after each treatment cycle is completed, since partial or cancelled cycles aren't eligible.

Once submitted, the SA Government may contact you if further information is needed, and you'll be notified of the outcome by email (or by phone/post if you don't have an email address).

Frequently Asked Questions About the SA IVF Rebate
